Record and photo gallery: launch of the book about Marshal Konev (6 May 2024)

On Monday, May 6, we held a festive launch of a new popularization book by historians Petr Blažek and Jiří Fidler Koněv in the hall of Písecká brána in Prague 6 . The Soviet Marshal and his Prague Monument (Museum of Memory of the 20th Century, Prague 2024).

In the first part of the publication, historian Jiří Fidler describes the life story of Marshal Konev, focusing on his military career. In the second part, historian Petr Blažek presents the history of the Prague monument, which was created as a propaganda gesture several years after Koněv's death. The book contains many interesting facts, documents, photographs, and above all puts the whole story of the 20th and 21st centuries into context. The foreword was written by architectural historian Zdeněk Lukeš.

If you are interested in the story of Marshal Konev's life, how his monument in Prague was created and what plans we have for it as part of the new exhibition of the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century in the House of Piazzas at Hradčany, you can buy the book in the Kosmas bookstore.
The book launch was held under the auspices and with the participation of the Mayor of Prague 6 Jakub Stárek. Also in attendance was the Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Prague, Mr. Jiří Pospíšil and former Mayor of Prague 6 and MP Ondřej Kolář. The event also included a debate with the authors.
A recording of the book launch and subsequent debate is available on our YouTube channel and below.
