Exhibition of JUDr. Bedřich Hostička (22 February - 21 March 2024)

We cordially invite you to the exhibition at the Church of St. Ignatius in Ječná Street 2, Prague 2. The exhibition will be on display in the Chapel of All the Faithful Departed, also known as the Soulstice Chapel, from 22 February to 21 March 2024.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on 22 February 2024 at 16:00.

The exhibition presents one human fate against the background of the times. JUDr. Bedřich Hostička (1914-1996), a lawyer, as a politician of the Czechoslovak People's Party, was involved in the monster trial of JUDr. Milada Horáková and other personalities and in 1950 was sentenced to 28 years in a heavy prison on the basis of fabricated charges of anti-state conspiracy and espionage for the Vatican. He was imprisoned in harsh conditions mainly in Ruzyně, Mírov, Leopoldov and Valdice. He was released only in 1963.

After the August 1968 occupation, he left with his wife and son for Switzerland, where he became actively involved in the exile movement. This is one of the reasons why he and his family remained in the crosshairs of the State Security. The exhibition consists mainly of Hostička's personal documents, which he kept with his neighbour in Czechoslovakia before his departure for exile. The collection was donated by the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century.

The exhibition premiered in 2022. You can watch a recording of the opening, which took place in the Ambit Gallery at the Convent of Our Lady of the Snows, here.

The life story of the lawyer, politician, political prisoner and exile JUDr. Bedřich Hostička is also presented in the publication Christian Democrat JUDr. Bedřich Hostička (1914-1996), published by the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century in 2022.

The exhibition is part of the Mene Tekel festival.
