On Thursday, 26 January, the Tram took to the streets of Prague to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the independent Czech Republic. The car in the colours of the tricolour commemorates the anniversary of the election of Václav Havel as the first president of the independent Czech state. The Prague Transport Company's tram will carry passengers on regular routes for several months. The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor Zdeněk Hřib, the Councillor for Transport Adam Scheinherr and the Director of the Václav Havel Library Michael Žantovský, including the Director of the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century Jan Kalous.
The car officially started its first official journey on 26 January after 9 a.m. from the Planetarium stop and will be deployed on various routes throughout this year. The interior of the car is decorated with quotes by Václav Havel, highlighting his contribution to the Czech Republic. The tram set off as part of the "Havel for Passengers" event, which commemorates Havel's enormous importance along with important historical milestones of the last thirty years. Václav Havel was elected the first Czech President on 26 January 1993 and the second on 20 January 1998. He left office on 2 February 2003 and was succeeded by Václav Klaus. "Václav Havel is undoubtedly one of the most important personalities of the 20th century. That is why it is still important to remember his personality, timeless and value-laden attitudes and opinions," said Jan Kalous.
