Press release: Marshal Radetzky and his Prague monument, seminar (5 April 2024)

The Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century is organizing a round table seminar to contribute to a substantive discussion on the possibilities of returning the monument to Marshal Josef Václav Radecký to Malostranské náměstí in Prague.

The seminar will take place under the auspices of the Deputy Mayor of the Capital City of Prague. JUDr. Jiří Pospíšil.

"Radecký was a Czech military leader who achieved success in his time. He was an interesting figure in Czech history and the monument is one of the finest sculptures of the 19th century created in this country. So there is no reason why the monument should not be returned," said Deputy Mayor of the capital city of Prague. Jiří Pospíšil.

The director of the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century, Petr Blažek, PhD, adds: "The monument is the work of renowned sculptors whose work is part of the public space. The Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century is interested in having a stimulating discussion among experts from various fields and in presenting arguments for and against the return of the monument to Marshal Radecký to Malostranské náměstí in Prague."
