Visualisation of the location of the statue of Marshal Konev (atelier IXA)
The Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century was established in autumn 2019. We are currently selecting suitable exhibits for the upcoming exhibition in the House of Pážat at Hradčany. We have acquired a statue of Marshal Konev, created by sculptor Zdeněk Krybus, on loan from the Prague 6 municipality. It was placed on the Interbrigade Square in Prague's Bubenec since 9 May 1980. In recent years, its placement in public space has caused great conflicts related to different views on the end of the Second World War and the communist past. In 2020, the Prague 6 municipal council decided to relocate it to the depository of the memorial organisation. The new film The Statue of Marshal Konev: The Story of the Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century, which was filmed in 2022, tells its story and presents the future place of the statue in the permanent exhibition in the House of the Passengers, where the Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century is being prepared. The author of the theme and guide is historian Petr Blažek, and the film features the director of the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century , Jan Kalous, and architectural historian Zdeněk Lukeš. The director of the film is Ludvík Franc. The film was made for the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century by A New Production. This is the second film in the series The Story of the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century, the opening film was dedicated to the ruins of Jan Palach.
On this occasion, for those interested in this topic, we are also publishing in electronic form an article about the statue of Marshal Konev, written by Petr Blažek and published in the Yearbook XX (No. 1/2021).
