We are co-organizing a seminar Ďáblice and other secret burial sites (23. 6. 2022)

More than thirty years after the fall of the communist regime, mass grave sites still exist in the Czech Republic where the remains of victims and opponents of totalitarian regimes of the 20th century are secretly buried. One of the most famous is the burial site in Ďáblice. The aim of the seminar is to open a discussion about the form of these important places of memory and how to commemorate them with dignity. The seminar is held within the framework of the ÚSTR research project Secret burial sites of opponents and victims of the Nazi and Communist regimes in Ďáblice - history, memory and present. It is also a continuation of the project Names of the Dead. The organisers are the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century, the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, the Association of Former Political Prisoners and the Documentation and History Cabinet of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic.
