We are preparing a series of film documentaries about the collection objects The Story of the Twentieth Century Memorial Museum.
Statue of Marshal Konev (2022)
The film is dedicated to the statue of Marshal Konev by sculptor Zdeněk Krybus. It was placed from 9 May 1980 to 3 April 2020 on the Interbrigade Square in Prague's Bubenč. In recent years, its placement in public space has caused great conflicts related to different views of the end of World War II and the communist past. In 2020, the Prague 6 municipal administration decided to lend it to the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century. It will be exhibited in the House of Pážat after its adaptation to the museum's headquarters. For those interested in this topic, an article about the statue of Marshal Konev written by Petr Blažek is also available in electronic form (published in Yearbook XX, No. 1/2021).
Jan Palach's Rubashka (2021)
This image is dedicated to an exhibit related to Jan Palach, which the museum received as a gift from Jiří Mejstřík, a former representative of the student movement at the University of Economics in Prague in the second half of the 1960s. Jan Palach brought the military shirt from the Soviet Union to Czechoslovakia shortly before the August invasion. Besides Jiří Mejstřík, the film also features Hubert Bystřičan, another student from VŠE, who was a close friend of Jan Palach. He also sent him a correspondence note on the day of his protest.
