The Museum of the Memory of the Twentieth Century invites you to a meeting with Paweł Ukielski, co-author of the book 1989 - Autumn of Nations , which will take place at 5 p.m. on 9 June 2022 at the Václav Havel Library in Prague. The Czech counterpart in the debate will be historian Petr Blažek from the Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century, moderated by the director of the Polish Institute Maciej Ruczaj. The comparative monograph focuses on the collapse of the communist bloc. The book was published by Academia Publishing House and translated by Silvia Mitlenerová.
Historian Paweł Ukielski is Deputy Director of the Warsaw Uprising Museum and the Department of Central and Eastern Europe at the Institute of Political Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience and a member of the College of the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century. He focuses on Central European themes, Czech and Slovak history. In Polish, he published the book Velvet Divorce. The Role of Political Elites in the Partition of Czechoslovakia (2007).
The book will also be presented at the World Book Fair 2022 at the Prague Exhibition Centre (10 June 2022, 5 pm). The book presentation is organised by the Polish Institute in Prague in cooperation with the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century, the Václav Havel Library and the Platform of European Memory and Conscience.
