Invitation: parallels of development after 1989 in Czechoslovakia and Ukraine (15. 11. 2024)

In cooperation with the Anti.quariate of Dejvice Theatre and Thanks for Being Able, a debate on the topic "Parallels of Development after 1989 in Czechoslovakia and Ukraine" will take place on 15 November 2024 at 6 pm.

Celebrations of the November anniversary routinely overshadow the movements by which Soviet society was breaking free from the grip of totalitarianism. A distinct awakening of repressed national aspirations gave rise to a number of initiatives in Soviet Ukraine that eventually contributed to the collapse of the communist empire and the emergence of an independent state. The historian David Svoboda, who works at the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century, and Lenka Víchová, a Ukrainianist and editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian Journal, will discuss the events of 1989-1991 and the way they were perceived by Czech post-war society, politics and media.
Admission is free, you are cordially invited!

The debate takes place on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the historic events of 1989. For more information on other programmes we are involved in this year to mark 17 November, please click here:
