Invitation to the exhibition Christian Democrat JUDr. Bedřich Hostička (7.-30. 11. 2022)

We cordially invite you to the exhibition Christian Democrat JUDr. Bedřich Hostička, which will take place from 7 to 30 November 2022 at the Ambit Gallery in the Convent of Our Lady of the Snows near Jungmann Square in Prague. The entrance to the building is from the Franciscan Garden by the playground. The opening will take place on Monday 7 November 2022 at 6 pm.

The exhibition presents one human fate against the background of the times. JUDr. Bedřich Hostička, a lawyer, as a politician of the Czechoslovak People's Party, was included in the monster trial of JUDr. Milada Horáková and Co. and sentenced in 1950 to 28 years of hard imprisonment on trumped-up charges of anti-state conspiracy and espionage for the Vatican. He was imprisoned in harsh conditions mainly in Ruzyně, Mírov, Leopoldov and Valdice. He was released only in 1963. After the August 1968 occupation, he left for Switzerland with his wife and son, where he became active in the exile movement. That is why he and his family remained in the crosshairs of the State Security. The exhibition is mainly composed of personal documents of JUDr. Bedřich Hostička, which he kept at his neighbour's house before he went into exile in Czechoslovakia. The collection was acquired two years ago as a gift from the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century.

The exhibition is part of the accompanying programme of the 3rd annual Unbreakable and Sacrificed Film Festival. The exhibition is accompanied by a Czech-English catalogue, which will be presented at the opening. There are also worksheets for the project lesson for social science subjects.
