Round Table on the Investigation of the Death of Jan Masaryk

The Vice-Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Jiří Oberfalzer, in cooperation with the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century and the Society for Research into the Crimes of Communism, is organising a roundtable on 16 June 2020 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Frýdlant Lounge of the Valdštejn Palace .

The roundtable wants to reflect on the results of the investigations from 1948-2004, analyse important documents, reflect on potential further evidence and thus provide an opportunity for deeper reflection on the life and fate of Czechoslovak Foreign Minister Jan Masaryk.

In October 2019, the Municipal State Prosecutor's Office in Prague opened its fifth investigation into his death. So far, the investigations have ended with a wide range of possibilities, from suicide to an unfortunate coincidence to variously executed and motivated versions of the murder. The experts who will take part in the roundtable will discuss how relevant the arguments are for launching a new investigation, or what we still don't know about the end of the life of the most popular Czechoslovak politician of his time.

We will post a recording of the event on our website and social media.
