Invitation to the debate: The expulsion and Prague returns of the king of maypole Allen Ginsberg (9 May 2022)

We cordially invite you to an accompanying event to the exterior exhibition Kings of the Mayflowers on Monday 9 May 2022 from 6 pm at Werich Villa on Kampa (501 U Sovových mlýnů Street, Prague 1)

On May 1, 1965, the American poet Allen Ginsberg became the king of the Maypole. After a few days he was expelled from Czechoslovakia and accused in the press of corrupting Czechoslovak youth. In 1990 he returned to Prague and symbolically handed over the crown to the new king of the majáles. Ginsberg's Prague visits and his literary reflection on these events will be discussed by František Stárek "Čuňas" and Josef Rauvolf. The debate will be moderated by Petr Blažek.
