Some regret its demise to this day, others soon got used to it. In any case, few states in the twentieth century were able to divide peacefully. Thirty years ago, Czechoslovakia broke up and two new successor states were created. What reasons led to these events? Were there alternatives to these developments? How is Czechoslovakia now perceived by Czech and Slovak society?
