Recently, the discussion about the selection of candidates for constitutional judges has caught the public's attention. The main topic of the debate, which we are organising jointly with the Václav Havel Library on 28 November 2023 at 7 pm, will be the role of the Constitutional Court in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic.
What role did it play in the interwar period? Who was its first president, who at the same time held the office of the Mayor of Prague? Why was it not restored after World War II? Under what circumstances was it established in 1991? Which personalities shaped its beginnings and further existence? And what was the impact of its resolutions? Which causes did it address in coming to terms with its communist past?
The guests of the debate entitled History and Present of Constitutional Justice will be former constitutional judge Ivana Janů, political scientist Daniel Kroupa and historian Jan Kuklík. The moderator is Hana Kordová Marvanová, chairwoman of the board of the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century .
