Opening of the exhibition on Jan Palach in Romania (13 June 2024)

On 13 June 2024, the Jan Palach exhibition was opened at the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and Resistance in Sighet . The Living Torch 1969.
The opening was held on the occasion of the traditional pilgrimage of former political prisoners, their relatives and friends. This is the Romanian version of the exhibition, which was previously prepared by the historian and director of the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century Petr Blažek. Its graphic design was created by Jáchym Šerých. It has already been exhibited in a number of countries, including Poland, Hungary, France and South Korea. The exhibition was supplemented by two cases of self-immolation in Romania before 1989.
The exhibition was prepared by the Romanian Memorial and the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes in cooperation with the Archive of the Security Forces and the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century.
The exhibition was opened by the co-founder of the memorial in Sighet, poet and writer Ana Blandiana, the head of the editorial department of the Institute of the History of the Soviet Union Stanislav Škoda and the director of the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century Petr Blažek, who also presented the Romanian edition of his book Living Torches in the Soviet Bloc.
The impressive memorial in Sighet is located in the former prison building.
