Seminar Jazz and Swing as a Danger for Nazism and Communism? (13. 11. 2024)

On 13 November 2024, we prepared a seminar in the Libri prohibiti library on the Nazi and Communist regime's actions towards jazz music and its fans in Germany, the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia/Czechoslovakia and Poland. Moderated by historian Kryštof Zeman, the panel included historian Natalie Reinsch, Polish journalist and dissident Aureliusz Marek Pędziwol, Czech historian Petr Koura and Jazz Section activist Vladimír Kouřil. The debate was prepared for the anniversary of 17 November, both in 1939 and 1989. It is part of the NS-Unjustice project, supported by the German foundation Erinnerung-Verantwortung-Zukunft.
