Looking back: the Guru of Czech History Prof. Robert Kvaček (4. 12. 2024)

On 4 December 2024, the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century held a debate at the Václav Havel Library dedicated to the personality of Czech historian and educator Prof. Robert Kvaček, DrSc., who died this spring at the age of 92. His importance and contribution (not only) to Czech history was debated by his students, younger colleagues and friends, historians Petr Koura, Josef Tomeš, Josef Nožička and Michal Macháček, who moderated the discussion. Prof. Kvaček's wife and son also sat in the audience, and his friends Roman Cílek and Petr Čornej greeted the meeting remotely.

Throughout the whole discussion, the great respect of the discussants for Prof. Kvacek, not only as a scientist, but also as a person, was a red thread. The involvement of other historian friends sitting in the audience added to the liveliness and interest of the debate. For example, Vojtech Čelko, Karel Šplíchal, Jan Rychlík, Petr Blažek and others. In short, the evening was full of beautiful and varied memories of a man who left an indelible mark on both the academic sphere and the hearts of people.
