If you missed the seminar in November at Kavčí Hory, which was subtitled History in Film, Documentary and News, you can watch the recording here.
How much can we "make up" about real people from our past in a film? What are the limits of the copyright license in making historical films? Are there any legal taboos with biographical material? What if ethical considerations and directorial and artistic intent collide when making a documentary about painful subjects? Are there any rules about the use of fiction sequences in documentaries? What all can be influenced by editing? Where does the line between news and propaganda lie? Don't some television makers take the historian as an alibi rather than as a partner? And is it possible to present history on television other than on the basis of recurring anniversaries?
