On Tuesday, 27 February 2024, a debate dedicated to the fate of Jan Zajíc, who set himself on fire in 1969, took place at the Libri Prohibition library of exile and samizdat literature. Other lesser-known living torches were also presented. Historians explained how these acts were reflected by society and the regime, as well as the tragic effects the protest of these individuals had on their families.
The debate was moderated by historian and archivist Branislav Dorko, author of a monograph on Jan Zajic, and historian Petr Blažek, who wrote a monograph on the living torches in the Soviet bloc and is the author of the historical exhibition at the Jan Palach Memorial. The debate was moderated by historian Kryštof Zeman.
You can see the focused but friendly atmosphere that prevailed during the debate in our photo gallery. Thank you to everyone who came and participated in the debate. We look forward to seeing you on the next occasion!
