It is also heralded by two seminars that we are organizing at the Atlas Cinema. That is, in the place where at the beginning of November the festival will be in full swing. Seminar "Film as a museum medium" // Kino Atlas, Prague / 16 October 2024
|
We would like to invite the professional museum public and others interested in the topic of film seen through the lens of the museum medium to a seminar entitled "Audiovisual media in current exhibitions". The first accompanying event to the festival Unbreakable and Sacrificed will take place on Wednesday 16 October at 1 pm in the Blue Hall of the Atlas Cinema (Ke Štvanici 371/4, Prague 8). Representatives of the Lidice Memorial and the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century will present their films and audiovisual museum works.

Seminar "Coping with the Legacy of Communist Justice"// Atlas Cinema, Prague / 23 October 2024

The second seminar will also take place in the Blue Hall of the Atlas Cinema on 23 October 2024 at 6 pm. The event will be attended by historian Petr Blažek, judge Ivana Janů, attorney Hana Kordová Marvanová and Kamil Nedvědický from the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes (co-organizer of the event). UNBREAKABLE AND SACRIFICED |5-8OCTOBER 2024

This year, the 5th edition of the international film festival will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. It will focus on the events of 1989, not only in Czechoslovakia but also in other Soviet bloc countries. Visit one of the screenings or the rich accompanying programme!

Manuscript of the novel 1984
|
The manuscript of George Orwell's novel 1984 became a collector's item in June this year on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition 1984: George Orwell and Czechoslovakia. It was donated to the Museum by Quentin Kopp, President of The Orwell Society, who added a personal dedication. The book was published in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, making it a valuable collector's item. The foreword was written by D. J. Taylor, who has written several books on Orwell's life (the most recent of which is entitled Orwell: The New Life).

Exhibition European GULAG // War Memorial, Lešetice / until 17 November 2024
|
The exhibition is on display in Vojna Lešetice Memorial. The Vojna camp belonged to the complex of forced labour camps at the Czechoslovak uranium mines in 1949-1951.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising, David Svoboda and his guests Vilém Prečan, Jan Rychlík and Michal Macháček met at the Václav Havel Library for a debate. They discussed the changes in the evaluation of the meaning of the uprising over time.
