NEW PUBLICATION

TIGRID. Journalist, exile and politician

The main theme of this publication is the life, work and work of Pavel Tigrid (1917-2003), an important personality of Czechoslovak and Czech history. His life was greatly influenced by the great turning points of the 20th century. He went into exile twice and returned to his homeland twice. During the German occupation he worked for the Czechoslovak BBC in London. After the war he worked as a journalist in the People's Party press. At the beginning of the 1950s he was the head of the Czechoslovak editorial office of Radio Free Europe in Munich. In 1956 he co-founded the exile magazine Svědectví, which he edited until the early 1990s. After the fall of the communist regime, he worked in the presidential office as an advisor to Václav Havel.

COLLECTION ITEM OF THE MONTH

Brigadier's card in the movement for a more beautiful Prague

Have you ever been on a temp job? In a way, they have persisted to the present day, but as volunteers. Today, we do not compete with each other to see who can do the most for a given "enterprise", as was the case under the previous regime. In the USSR, brigade competitions gradually developed from the early 1960s onwards, and their purpose was to increase the building enthusiasm and spirit that had gradually waned since 1948. Jaroslav Hájek, brother of Hana Krausová, also participated in such a communist brigade in 1955, and in June she brought us many interesting documents as a gift to the Museum, among them the Brigade Card in the Movement for a More Beautiful Prague.

RIGHT NOW

Exhibition European GULAG // War Memorial, Lešetice / until 17 November 2024

The exhibition is on display in Vojna Lešetice Memorial. The Vojna camp belonged to the complex of forced labour camps at the Czechoslovak uranium mines in 1949-1951.
