The artist and writer Josef Čapek (1887-1945) is one of the most important personalities of Czech modern avant-garde art. After Hitler came to power, he opposed the Nazi regime. As early as 1 September 1939, he was arrested and then imprisoned in a series of concentration camps.

BOARD GAME ACROSS THE IRON CURTAIN

|
The boardgame Through the Iron Curtain is now available in the Kosmas bookstore network. The game is based onthe original version of Across the Iron Curtain and is available in Czech in a second, expanded edition prepared by the Twentieth Century Memorial Museum and the Platform of European Memory and Conscience. The game is inspired by true stories, through which the player will better understand the reality of life under communism and the reasons why people chose to take the risky path. Recommended!

The dominant landmark of Prague's Žižkov celebrates ninety years and on this occasion a programme focusing on modern history is planned. The programme will also include an exhibition by the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century Eyes of the State Security and several screenings of films followed by a debate between the filmmakers and historians from our museum.

and signature of Czechoslovak hockey legend Stanislav Konopásek (1923-2008). The career of S. Konopásek and most of his colleagues from the national team was forcibly ended by the communist regime. In October 1950, the recently celebrated "golden boys" were sentenced to many years of imprisonment in a fabricated political trial, in the case of Konopásek it was twelve years.

CONFERENCE: Crimes of Communism (26. 2. 2024)
|
On Monday, February 26, 2024, the seminar Crimes of Communism, which we co-organized, took place. The seminar was held under the auspices of the Vice-Chairman of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Czernin. The event was addressed to primary and secondary school students, who filled the entire hall. A recording of the seminar can be seen at the link below.

until 17 November 2024, the exhibition European GULAG. The Vojna camp belonged to the complex of forced labour camps at the Czechoslovak uranium mines between 1949 and 1951.
|

- On Friday, 5 April 2024, the Prague Mayor's Residence will host a seminar on Marshal Josef Václav Radecký and his Prague Monument. The seminar, which will take the form of a round table, will contribute to a substantive discussion on the possibilities of returning this monument to its original location, which is being sought by the Radecký Prague Society.
- We are finishing the next edition of the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century's yearbook Revue XX . (Like the previous issues, the revue will be available in the Kosmas bookstore network.
- Last but not least, we are preparing the publication Koněv. Marshal and his Prague monument.
