INVITATIONS

TIGRID: Journalist, Exile and Politician // Mariánské náměstí, Prague / 2 September - 30 September 2024

Cordially we invite you to the opening of the outdoor exhibition, which will take place on September 2, 2024 at 2 pm. The exhibition, which will be on display at the on display at Mariánské náměstí (Prague 1) until 30 September 2024, presents the life, work and life story of Pavel Tigrid (1917-2003), an extraordinary personality of Czech modern history. A guided tour of the exhibition will also take place on 2 September, from 6 pm.
MPXX at Never More 68 // Výstaviště Praha / 21. 8. 2024

This year's Never More 68 event raises the topic of women in dissent. We have therefore invited to an interview Hana Kordova Marvanova, the chairwoman of our board of directors, who was forced out of office for political reasons imprisoned for political reasons. The panel will take place from 16:55-17:35 on the Podcast Stage.
From 3 pm to 10 pm, you will also find us at the MPXX booth, where our publications will be available at a discounted price, and you will also be able to try your hand at escaping the Iron Curtain. We will have a small gift for all brave smugglers. 😊
Summer school for teachers of humanities // Museum of the Police of the Czech Republic, Prague / 29 August 2024

Traditionally, together with the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes and the Museum of the Police of the Czech Republic, we organize a summer school for primary and secondary school teachers. The programme on the topic "Anti-Communist Resistance and Resistance" All registrants can look forward to a programme consisting of four blocks focusing on the definition of this phenomenon, its research and teaching about it.

1984: George Orwell and Czechoslovakia | 1984: George Orwell and Czechoslovakia

The main themes of this publication are Czechoslovak reflections on the work of British writer George Orwell, especially his famous novels 1984 and Animal Farm. The authors of this book deal not only with exile and samizdat editions of the novels, their creation and dissemination in an unfree society, but also with works of art influenced by Orwell's work. They also pay attention to images of Orwell's 1984 in Czechoslovakia, including the repression of opponents of the communist regime and expressions of solidarity with political prisoners.
Educational board game
Across the Iron Curtain

A suitable supplement to social studies seminars, history lessons and school club programmes. In the game, students will learn about thirty stories inspired by the articles of the Declaration of Human Rights and Freedoms. We offer one free board game and another at a discounted price to schools for educational purposes.

BELLS OF MEMORY

Bells of memory

The project commemorates personalities who courageously stood up to totalitarian regimes and contributed to the victory of freedom and democracy in our country. ZSt. Nicholas Cathedral in Prague will sound and will be sounded at 3 pm.

and 30 August for Vera Čáslavská.

COLLECTION ITEM OF THE MONTH

Conscription Association Blouse - battledress

The Conscription Union was founded in October 1945 and merged under itself the Union of Czechoslovak Officers, the Union of National Rifle Guards, the Union of Czechoslovak Staff Sergeants and the Union of Czechoslovak Reservists. It united over half a million members and, under the supervision of the Ministry of National Defence, took over all conscript training and conscript sports activities in the republic.
The members of the Conscription Association wore mainly old uniforms of the Czechoslovak, British and German armies, marked on their collars with circular badges with the letters "SB". A modified battledress of Czechoslovak origin from our collections bears the same. Apart from the union badges, it is also equipped with Czechoslovak military buttons.

Exhibition Century of Martyrs // Piarist Square, České Budějovice / until 31 August 2024

On Piarist Square in České Budějovice until the end of August, there is noCzech version of the exhibition about the life stories of twenty-seven Christians who gave their lives for their faith. VThe Century of Martyrs exhibition, presenting, among others, the fates of P. Josef Toufar and Bishop Gorazd II, was prepared by our museum together with Platform of European Memory and Conscience.
Exhibition European GULAG // War Memorial, Lešetice / until 17 November 2024

The exhibition is on display in Vojna Lešetice Memorial. The Vojna camp belonged to the complex of forced labour camps at the Czechoslovak uranium mines in 1949-1951.

Quentin Kopp, Chairman of the British Orwell Society, donated a collection item to our museum - a commemorative slate plaque from the roof of the house where George Orwell wrote his novel 1984. A video of the opening is available on our channel YouTube. The exhibition can be visited in Kampa Park until 25 September 2024.
Educational events Across the Iron Curtain

At the end of June, the at the Hybernská Campus for a board game experience Across the Iron Curtain. Our goal was to provide the participating high school students with a context for the time period of the game and to bring them closer to the lives of the memories that inspired the game.
