PhDr. Petr Blažek, Ph.D. was elected Director of the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century, z. ú.

On March 20, 2024, the Board of Directors of the Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century elected historian Petr Blažek to the position of Director of the Museum. Historian Petr Blažek participated in the establishment of the Museum of the Memory of the XXth Century in 2019 and since 1 December 2023, he has been the interim director of the museum.

INVITATION: A memorial evening dedicated to Karel Kryl (12 April 2024)

April marks the 80th anniversary of the birth of poet and singer-songwriter Karel Kryl. In cooperation with the Libri Prohibiti library, we are organising a commemorative evening on this occasion.

Come and remember the work of Karel Kryl and sing his famous songs!

The 90 Years of (In)Freedom event with the House of Joy runs until 26 June 2024

The landmark of Prague's Žižkov celebrates ninety years and withpart of the programme, which runs until 26 June, includes, among other things, an exhibition by the Museum of the Memory of the 20th Century Eyes of the State Security. You can get a glimpse of the House of Joy through the video and photo gallery at the link below.

Revue of the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century

The third issue of the yearbook of the Museum of Memory of the 20th Century brings a number of studies, articles and interviews. It contains, among other things, texts on the collection objects, some of which will be part of the permanent exhibition that the museum is preparing for the House of the Passion at Hradčany, its future headquarters.

It will be published on 19 April 2024 and will be available in the Kosmas bookstore network.

BELLS OF MEMORY
The project continues in April Bells of Memory. Ringing Remembrances personalities who courageously stood up to totalitarian regimes and contributed to the victory of freedom and democracy in our country. On Wednesday 3 April we rang the bell for Jiřina Štěpničková. For whom the bell of St. Nicholas in Prague will toll in the days and weeks to come?

Public Security Auxiliary Guard Card

In the 1980s, the Public Security Auxiliary Guard (PS-VB) had been an established organisation for several decades, bringing together - as the name suggests - civilian collaborators of the Public Security Service. The collection card belonged to PS-VB member Václav V. and was issued in 1987.

Twentieth Century Memorial Museum organized a seminar to contribute to a substantive discussion on the possibilities of returning the monument to Marshal Josef Václav Radetsky to Malostranské náměstí in Prague. The seminar took place at the Residence of the Mayor of the Capital City of Prague. Prague under the auspices of the Deputy Mayor of Prague. JUDr. Jiří Pospíšil.

EXHIBITION: European GULAG (until 17 November 2024)

The War Memorial Lešetice is
until 17 November 2024, the exhibition European GULAG. The Vojna camp belonged to the complex of forced labour camps at the Czechoslovak uranium mines between 1949 and 1951.
PREPARING
  • In early May 2024 a new publication will be published: Horseman. Soviet Marshal and his Prague Monument. We are planning a public presentation which will take place on May 6, 2024 at 6:00 pm at Písecká brána in Prague 6.
  • The next debate at the Václav Havel Library is scheduled for 20 May 2024 and will be entitled: Round Table as an Instrument of Change. Central Europe in 1989. The invitation was accepted by Michael Kocáb, Vladimír Hanzel and Petr Blažek. The moderator will be Hana Kordová Marvanová, chairwoman of the board of the Museum of Memory of the XXth Century.
  • Twentieth Century Memorial Museum will present its new books at the international book fair and literary festival WORLD OF BOOKS PRAGUE, which will take place in Miroslav Vodrážka and Petr Blažek will present a forthcoming publication on the relationship between Zbyněk Fišer / Egon Bondy and the State Security on 26 May at 3:00 pm. The debate will be moderated by Hana Kordová Marvanová.
  • On Wednesday 29 May 2024 at 5:30 pm we invite you to the Přítomnost cinema in the House of Joy in Prague's Žižkov district for a screening of Pavel Tigrid's film The European followed by a debate with the director Helena Třeštíková. Moderated by Kryštof Zeman.
